“By design, this volume comes as a direct hit…Erwin Lutzer aims right at the center of our cultural crisis. At heart, it is a theological crisis.” –R. Albert Mohler Jr.
Is God More Tolerant than He Used to Be?
Just as the moon obscures the sun’s light during an eclipse, today’s radical secularism has obscured the light of God. But God’s light still shines–and He is calling us to shine His light in the growing darkness.
In The Eclipse of God, bestselling author Erwin Lutzer exposes our nation’s disastrous efforts to redefine God in its own image. The resulting damage has been so great that confusion about God has even crept into the church. This bold exposition will help you
- understand society’s attempts to make God inclusive and sin-friendly by exploring the intellectual roots of the present darkness
- renew your faith in God by replacing worldly misperceptions of Him with the biblical truths about His unchanging character
- resist cultural conformity by counting the cost of faith as you shine the gospel’s light with accuracy and grace
Timely and practical, The Eclipse of God will deepen your love for the sovereign God of the Bible and empower you to live and speak as a light for Him in a culture of darkness.

Review Quotes:
“It takes a unique Christian scholarship to insightfully diagnose our crumbling Western culture and to weigh all the underlying causes and claims against the standard of God’s Word. Yet I am very grateful that this book was written by one who is not only a scholar but also a lifelong pastor. He possesses the gifts to skillfully inform twenty-first-century Christians about what’s really going on in our day, and at the same time, he is ably equipped to carefully shepherd his readers to respond with Christ-honoring thoughts and strategic actions. I am so encouraged that pastor Lutzer has drawn from his scholarly mind and his pastoral heart to give us this tremendously helpful work. Read it, respond to it, and pass it on.”
–Mike Fabarez, pastor, Compass Bible Church, Aliso Viejo, CA
“Our crumbling culture has forced Christians to walk on a tightrope, and many are falling off. On the one hand, Christians are to make the most of every opportunity to share the great news that Jesus died for sinners. On the other hand, we are called to love our enemies and do what is within our power to enhance human flourishing via whatever non-sinful method possible. Walking that tightrope requires an experienced and steady hand to help us find our balance. The Eclipse of God will help you walk that tightrope and impact your world, both now and for eternity.”
–Todd Friel, host, Wretched TV and Radio
“In this masterful volume, Erwin Lutzer combines his inimitable style of precise thinking and theological acumen with seasoned pastoral wisdom to provide a stirring reveal of the state of our culture. Calm, biblical, but with the clarion overtones of a bold prophet, Lutzer lays out a defense of truth that is not only accessible to all but deployable for any Christian desiring to stand firm against an ever-encroaching assault on God and the faith.”
–Dr. Mark M. Yarbrough, president, Dallas Theological Seminary
“Amidst all our cultural wreckage, the living God of the Bible remains our only hope. In The Eclipse of God, Erwin Lutzer issues a clarion call for the church to walk in the light of God in an ever-darkening world.”
–Philip Miller, senior pastor, The Moody Church
“The Eclipse of God–containing meticulous scholarship–is an extraordinary resource for all who seek truth. In this era of denials of basic reality and institutionalized deconstruction of facts, Erwin Lutzer’s careful research and insights are more needed than ever.”
–Alex McFarland, author, educator, broadcaster
